Founded in 2006 with the mission of staying local, Brooklyn Oenology -- or BOE -- uses grapes from vineyards in the greater New York area to make their wines. Once fermented, the wine is packed and stored in unique bottles designed by local artists and adorned with custom, peel-able labels.
Before opening her own winery, Alie Shaper, BOE's founder and winemaker, worked as a harvester at a vineyard on Long Island’s famed North Fork. It was there that she learned the various aspects of winery work. After moving to Brooklyn, Shaper wanted to incorporate the area's surprisingly robust wine selection with a creative New York edge. It was out of this dream that, Brooklyn Oenology Winery was born.
Wine enthusiasts can choose from a variety of fun and unique flavors offered by BOE, such as Cabernet Franc, BOE Motley Cru, Gewurztraminer Orange Wine, Social Club Red and other custom red and white wines. As BOE continues to grow, Shaper is working with local liquor stores and beverage distributors to place their vintages in as many wine shops as possible.
Today, BOE has brought its downtown flavor up the Hudson River to Wineology in Pawling.
In addition to Brooklyn Oenology, Wineology has added several new wine and spirits to the Pawling location, including Apothic Inferno, Limoncello, Bogle Phantom, Mark West Black and more. Deciding on the perfect bottle can be difficult, which is why Wineology offers free wine tasting every Friday and Saturday to help with the selection process.
